Customer Service

So having lived in both countries (US & UK) which country's style of customer service do you prefer?

Although there are good and bad in both places, of course, would you agree with the following generalization?

US -- Accommodating, obliging, smiley, willing to go out of their way to get you what you want, etc. BUT a bit creepy and robotic and impersonal, with all the "Are you finding everything okay?" and "You have a great day!" and "I'm Jim and I'll be your server this evening!" Etc.

UK -- More aloof, maybe more surly and unhelpful, BUT treat you more like a fellow human being, less artificial, etc.
