I've been living in the UK for some time now, and, as I'm settled, and for other reasons, it's time I moved my belongings out of my parents home in the US. I'd like to do this in one fell swoop, rather than in bits over the next few years via flights there and back - any recommendations of a good way to do this that won't cost me a fortune? Depends on how much stuff. When I moved my stuff, I had much less than a metric ton, so I opted to just send them USPS/Royal Mail. I budgeted $75 per 25lb medium sized box, but it ended up being about $65 per box on average. If you have more than a metric ton or huge items to ship over, you might do some pricing online with a slow ocean shipper; in that case it would be cheaper.

just odds and ends - books, clothes, shoes, mementoes - no furniture or anything! Thanks for the info!

For books, you might try the USPS M-bags.

Investigate the UPS freight (rather than parcel) service, they weren't too expensive for a cubic yard, weighing no more than about 220lb or so. There's a calculator on their website for it somewhere.

I am probably shipping stuff over with Ship Smart. Depending on how much you need brought over I would encourage you to check them out. They seem really great so far.
