I'm moving to London in a month, and had intended to bring only what I could pack in two suitcases and carry on the plane. However, if there end up being a few things that don't fit, and I simply cannot live without...

...I've heard it's possible to post things to a post office in the UK to be held, and then pick them up when you arrive. I can't remember where I read about this, so, is it true? Has anyone tried this, or can tell me where I can find more information?

If I've just made this up, is anyone aware of any other options? Should I simply leave a box behind and have someone post it to me once I have an address? Is it possible to post something to a hostel where I'd be staying?

And on a similar note for Americans, what's the cheapest way to post things to the UK? UPS? Fed Ex? The post office? The post office told me they no longer have any international postal service shipping rate, everything goes by air (and is therefore quite expensive). Would I be better off looking into some kind of moving company, if, perhaps, I had a few boxes to ship rather than just one? Any recommendations?

Many thanks in advance!
