Skype? I had a really bad experience with them. Could barely call the house down the block, let alone America. Most calls would drop right in the middle, or we couldn't hear each other. I don't recommend Skype.

It could have been to do with your internet connection. Have you used any other VoIP program that you would recommend instead?

I've got both Lingo and Skype, and the sound quality on Lingo is almost always flawless. Skype, on the other hand, just isn't very clear. I think the VOIPs are still better quality.

I've never had any trouble with Skype, I've actually done 95% of my outgoing calls on it in the past 9 months or so. If I call landline to landline to my mum's house, then we get crap call quality anyway (Aliant won't change the dated phone lines in my fishing village hometown, they're old and don't work that well anymore) so I may as well just use Skype and get a deal.

I've had the occasional bad call with Skype, but have generally been very happy -- I've been using it for three years.
