Locations in England

I am a very indecisive person and cannot for anything decide on a place I want to live in England from April to September. I am doing BUNAC this April and the only thing I've narrowed down is that I am going somewhere in England instead of Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. My problem is that I would love to live in London and I think it would be excellent for exploring and it would probably be easier for finding a job, however, this may be my only chance to work and live in England for several months and I am questioning whether London would be the best representation of the country... plus, if I can find good pay somewhere that is cheaper, I'm all for it.

I would like to travel around Britain so train locations are helpful, though not a must if there's a good bus system in the area. I do like the outdoors a lot but I can settle for a park and some nice patch of sky. Having a good nightlife isn't high on my list. Any size city/town is fine as long as it doesn't have so bad of an economy that I wouldn't find a job. So, if you've lived in or visited or know of the places I have narrowed it down to, could you please make some comment that might be helpful in choosing to live there for a few months? Anything for or against a place, what sorts of things you can do there, if you yourself have worked there, etc. Or, if you love where you live (or lived in the past) and it isn't on my list and you would like to pitch it to me as an option, that'd be lovely too. Here's what I have so far:

Bath
Bournemouth
Brighton
Bristol
Colchester
Derby
Kendal
Leeds
Liverpool
London
Newcastle
Nottingham
Peterborough
Sheffield
Southampton
Wolverhampton
Worcester
York

And I'm looking at a few smaller towns in the Lake District but I'm not sure about finding work there...

Thanks in advance :)

**revised list, feel free to comment on the crossed-off ones still if you think they shouldn't be crossed-off
