Which passport to use entering the US?
Hi Guys
I have a bit of an annoying situation and I was wondering if anyone here could help. I'm an American married to a Brit and we live in the UK. I've just given birth to our first son and I'm super keen to take him to the US to meet my family. Only problem is the earliest we can get an appointment at the US embassy to make an application for our son's US passport is August! We're mailing in his application for a UK passport tomorrow, so that should be done in about 4 weeks.
My question is, if he enters the USA on his british passport, will this cause any problems in the future when we apply for his american passport or when he next tries to enter the USA on his american passport? The American embassy website are quite clear that he can hold dual nationality but that he must enter the USA on his american passport. But considering we won't have even registered him with the embassy in time for our trip to the USA, they won't know he exists so its not like he'll be on their systems as an American...
EDIT I should have mentioned, I am trying to get him a passport under an emergency passport application, but even with that, the online appointment system won't give me an appointment before August! I'll be speaking to the embassy in the morning to try and get the appointment bumped up. Thanks! :-)
