Who wants to talk about college basketball?! No one.....that's what I figured.
I just want to say that due to the heinousness of my friends who have revived our bracket pool from last year, I am currently in the lead. Because I'm awesome. And because I don't do stupid things like pick the "hometown team" to beat teams that are CLEARLY better than they are. I don't care where you're from or what you think.......the University of Minnesota is NOT going to beat the University of Texas in basketball. EVAR.
And today I will cackle immensely when all the guys take another hit in the ridiculous column because NORTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY IS NOT GOING TO BEAT KANSAS!!!!!!!
Allegiance be damned! This is the NCAA tournament! I mean......I picked PITTSBURG to beat both Duke AND North Carolina to get to the national championship!!!!!!!
I mean, heck. I don't hold out the false hope that a Wisconsin team that I didn't even think was really worth SENDING to the tournament is going to beat Florida State. No. I don't. If they do.....I will be immensely surprised, and possibly say "Why the f didn't you play like that all season?!?!"
All of this, of course, can be turned around on me when Marquette University does in fact get it handed to them by Missouri.
I have lost two of my predicted games so far. And one of them, I'm glad I lost.......since it was Illinois losing to Western Kentucky. And I really like it when Illinois loses.
There is one good thing that has come out of this tournament (well....the past few tournaments and this season and the fortune that was struck that the SEC was a completely miserable conference this year).............the Big Ten is FINALLY getting some respect. We have as many teams in as the ACC. We were called "one of the big three" conferences on selection Sunday. And last night, one of the announcers in the Illinois/Western Kentucky game said, "Illinois' defense is one of the best in the Big Ten, which makes it one of the best in the country." Shoot YES we're getting our long deserved respect.........and we weren't even THAT good this year. Everyone else was just THAT bad. But if that's what it takes to get yourselves noticed............
In other news, I'll be in Milwaukee this weekend. With a brief stop in Madison on Monday to have lunch with B. Dustin Pooler, M.D. because it's his birfday. I think it will be fun. I rather miss Milwaukee sometimes. And I've been talking about it a lot lately in various venues. Plus we're apparently doing something nice for a change and having brunch at Pandl's on Sunday...........best brunch in the city. No doubt. We're not brunch people though......but Pandl's is AWESOME good.
I kinda want some George Webb's while I'm there too. Let's make it a truly homer weekend. I wish the Brewers weren't in Arizona still.......we could grill up some Usingers in the parking lot of Miller Park and catch us a ballgame while we're so busy being homers. Or, well, while I'M so busy being a homer......I don't think Brian officially can be.
That's all for now. Nothing profound. I could talk about the World Baseball Classic and how I'm loving how Japan and Korea keep playing each other. I am, of course, hoping that Japan pulls off the win because the team consists of my current favorite active player Kenji-kun, one of the two cutest Japanese in all of the majors Aki-chan (he's second only to Kaz!), my new favorite half-Japanese pitcher Yuu Darvish, and three players from my beloved Bay Stars! All is well in the realm of Asian baseball, my friends.
And Brian ordered me a Kenji-kun Japan national jersey that I can wear on Twins opening day because he knew I would feel really really really awkward rolling into the Metrodome for the last ever opening day while blatantly wearing a Mariners shirt. It's not that I don't love the Twins......it's that I love Kenji-kun the most!
Oh yes, my friends, it's spring........it's spring.
