A Lot Can Happen in 3 weeks.

Sorry everyone-there have been a ton of things that I meant to post about, but things have been hectic, and even when I do have time to get to all the things I’ve been meaning to do, I don’t feel like doing them. Instead, I watch DVDs. Which I suppose is also fine, since I can watch stuff I’ve been meaning to watch when Brian’s not around. There are certain things I can watch with other people, and there are certain things I need to watch on my own. Or something. Anyway, my point is, sorry I haven’t been updating. Here you go.

1. Outside.

-On October 20, since it was still ridiculously nice outside (that’s changed now…..), Brian and I decided to do something outside. I gave him a list of my favorite outside things in the greater TC area, and told him to pick one or two. The choices were: Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge in scenic Bloomington, Minnehaha Falls, Red Wing, Hastings, or the “Hudson” River. He picked the refuge, since it’s right by the house, and then we decided that after that, we would go by train to Minnehaha. I was hoping to see some fall colors, but since the weather was so weird this year, there wasn’t much to come by. It was still a ridiculously nice day, and I still love that river. I’ll post some pictures sometime so you can all enjoy it a bit. We sort of inadvertently got on this hiking/biking trail that goes all the way to Burnsville and managed to walk 2.5 miles before deciding that we should turn around. 5 miles is a long way to walk, but it was nice out and we certainly needed the exercise. It meant that we were too tired to go to the waterfall, but apparently it was crowded there that day anyway. I like the refuge. I also like that it’s within a mile of my house. It does a person good to live within a mile of a National Wildlife Refuge. The only weird thing is the view of the MoA and the condos, and the almost constant sound of airplanes taking off and landing. Sort of breaks the nature ambience, but what can you do, I guess.

2. Madison & Cosplay.

- The weekend before Halloween, Brian and I adventured back to the city of Madison to help out with the UW Madison anime club cosplay extravaganza. There are those, including ourselves, that think it’s crazy to go back TO Madison for Halloween festivities, but we’re just that dedicated to cosplay and our beloved anime club. Plus, it gave us a chance to go to Milwaukee so I could visit with the parents for dad’s birthday. I’m sure this will continue to happen for years to come, since dad’s birthday will continue to be on Halloween. Anyways, fearSOME leader Jackie and her bf were dressed as Hagu and Morita from Honey and Clover, so Brian and I took the opportunity to finally take advantage of how similar we look to Mayama and Yamada, and we all had a Hatchimitsu good time. All we needed was a Takemoto (and a homemade Twister board), which is sad, cause he’s pretty much the easiest one to costume. Anyway,  I’m in the process of creating a photo gallery on SOME photo hosting site with all the pictures of the cosplay we’ve done over the years, so I’ll post a link when that’s done. It’s another one of those aforementioned things that I’ve been meaning to do though, so maybe it will take a while. Or, you know, maybe I’ll actually be productive in the coming weeks. But probably the former. Sadly. Anyway, the cosplay was fun as always, and brunch with the family & grandpa on Sunday was nice. I built a Strike Gundam in the car on the way back, too! Yay for building my first plamo. Here’s to many more to come. We shall have a veritable Mobile Suit army to protect our house.

3. Halloween, Tomodachi, and The Mountain Goats.

-On Halloween proper, I of course didn’t turn down the request for people to wear costumes to work (a good cosplayer never turns down an opportunity), and came dressed as the ever so wonderful Orihime Inoue from Bleach. The best part about my day was when my co-worker (who’s the closest one to my age) Marie, actually recognized it. Apparently, she’s got a super awesome anime-watching (or at least Bleach-watching) boyfriend who’s been showing her episodes of Bleach. Which is yay. So that was exciting, since pretty much everyone else just assumed it was some kind of Catholic school girl uniform. Which it isn’t. It is a school uniform, but it has nothing to do with Catholics or actual schools. Regardless, it was fun. And I got a new haircolor out of the deal.

- After work, Brian and I switched costumes and went to visit our good friends at Tomodachi. They were having a costume contest which could win us monies to spend at their store (which is key, since we spend enough of our own monies at their store). I brought back my Geek.Kon Haruko costume, and Brian brough back the ACen Haji costume, since those were the ones we put the most work into. Denny (our Korean-American, UW graduate, trilingual, owner friend) was very appreciative of us coming and really liked the costumes. So, here’s hoping his somewhat inexplicable love for us leads him to feel like giving us a prize. Though even if he doesn’t he knows we’ll still love his store to pieces.

- Post contest, we went BACK home, changed into our indie rock outfits, and headed downtown via train to see The Mountain Goats. Neither of us had ever seen them live before, and Brian said he just had the image of the lead singer as this sort-of disembodied voice. Anyway, it was a good time. The 400 bar (right by my office) is a small, but surprisingly acoustically nice, venue to see a band, and the crowd was into the show and the band was fun, and they actually did a plugged in show (vs acoustic which they tend to do a lot) and it rocked and a good time was had. Indie rock is fun. And as much as I have a disdain for pretentious indie kids, I had a good night hanging out with them.

Alright, that’s the rundown of the most important happenings in my life. I could comment on my almost obsessive consuming of Ghost Hunt, but that’s what the nerd blog and the website are for. If anything else exciting happens, I’ll be sure to check in (eventually). Until then, keep rocking.

From increasingly cold Minneapolis……Sari-chan out.
