Anonymous Hits The Big Time in MAXIM

O Lordy, is dat sum WIN?

"In the United States, Maxim is an industry leader, reporting a circulation of 2.5 million readers which they claim is enough to outsell leading competitors GQ, Esquire, and Details combined. The magazine is now using the brand name to market a myriad of other magazines and projects."

Cover:

(Cover blurb says: "FREAKS VS. GEEKS: The battle between Scientology and the Internet.")

"Due to its success in its primary markets, Maxim has expanded into many other countries, including Argentina, Canada, India, Indonesia, Israel, Belgium, Romania, the Czech Republic, France (marketed under "Maximal"), Germany, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Russia (where it stands now as the most popular men's magazine), Serbia, the Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, Ukraine, and Portugal (marketed under "Maxmen"). A wireless version of the magazine was launched in 2005 across cellular carriers in twenty European and Asian countries."

According to the writer, the article is only supposed to run in the US print version of Maxim. Still...pretty cool.

Who's next? Intel leaked says it will be Wired. O RLY?

"[Wired] are working on a really well researched article. Who knows if the article turns out great, but they are spending a lot of time on it. They did interviews in Boston and New York last month. They also went to the New York raid last month. And they will be in DC to get more pictures, interviews and watch the speakers." -- A /b/tard
(This comment was posted prior to the July 19th Over 9000 Man March demonstration in D.C., which attracted ~600-800 members of Anonymous from pretty much everywhere.)

NOTE: Indulge me while I drop some Memespeak on you, here. The article does not acknowledge those of us who merely farm the memes and cherrypick those that we find LULZy, rather than going directly to the *Chan sources and hanging with /b/ et al directly. I don't find the racist (etc.) jokes particularly amusing at all, and as such, wouldn't enjoy hanging at the *Chans when that sort of stuff was going on. I'm not OFFENDED, per se, because my skin is fairly thick and I can see the jokes objectively online when I mostly likely would be swift to intervene and express my disapproval if I heard someone who should know better IRL dropping the N-word bomb or the (*-fag suffix) in conversation.

Anyway, that's a fairly serious omission from the article, and the fact that Anonymous is successful despite its checkered reputation a strange win for Anonymous--a big percentage of the dreaded Final Boss / Internet HAET Machine doing stuff both for The LULZ and because it is the right thing to do. There's a sizable percentage of active users on Enturb who aren't down with all the MOAR Offensive *Chan stuff, and who are Anonymous ONLY for these protests. It is rather telling that Anonymous, for all its naughty / anti-social / prankish behaviors, still won over a lot of uninvolved, non-g00n, non-*Chan, non-Farker (etc.) protesters, as it speaks to the juicy deliciousness of the LULZ and GREAT JUSTICE involved with targeting a weird--and evil--cult.
