I repeat: if someone goes mental and actually takes a fucking swing at you, either kill and eat them right then and there or get the hell out, but do not try to be Buddha and full of forgiveness and chalk it up to "everyone's allowed one misdeed."
NO. Some behaviors are too rotten to deserve second chances for.
I'm telling you now, get out. Better to lose a pal than wind up locked in your room worrying about whether some freak is going to hit you or forcibly deflower you against your will or some other crazy shit.
I don't like to be reminded of my naive "I love the world" happy hippy self, because as smart as I was, I had zero life experience and thus minimal wisdom. I expected everyone else on the planet was basically sane and nice, like myself.
As wake-up calls go, that was a doozy.
On a positive note, I have never had an abusive boyfriend, my closest friends are awesome, and I don't typically let even remotely unstable people do more than converse with me for a few minutes. My freakdar is well-honed these days.
My pets are over-protected and spoiled beyond all imagining, too.

I've had a lot of bad experiences, but I am STILL trying to get this into my head, heh.
I would add- even if they cry, if they are an alcoholic or a druggie and they promise they'll "stop right now for good," don't take 'em for their word right away. I had an apartment trashed because of that one. :/

Not much into blaming myself over the whole deal anymore. Responsible for being naive, yes; responsible for the bad behavior of Cap'n Kook? Hell, no.
