Of course though this is exactly what could have happened IF Sam hadn't been forced to go to Dean because of the djinn. But I guess at least once he was in Heaven he probably would have found out the truth so at least he wouldn't suffering through eternity, in Heaven no less, thinking Sam was in Hell.

But man what a sucker punch, I kind of suspected it but to have it actually be there at the end still really hits you.
