This is way too deep and philosophical for my engineering brain to handle, but I'm going to point out a few sections that were the awesomesauce:
1. The human brain was a flat surface of pre-entered data, DNA coded to create an individual that held human universals with every other person on the planet. Language, thought patterns, the capacity for jealousy and anger.
2. Exchanges in business, official meetings, contracts, treaties. But an emotional love affair. Science clearly dictated that love could never be pure.
3. He was slumped down, sitting in the middle of the couch, playing with the hem of his shirt like a child.
This last image is just so incredibly intimate for me.
I feel like I've been ninja punched in the face with an anthropology lesson and I'm not curled up in the corner crying. I feel enlightened.
You do introspective Brennan so well, and this is really beautifully written. Each section flowed easily into the next, and it made me think.
