speech-language pathology looooove

so yesterday/today i had orientation for GRADUATE SCHOOL. I am officially a graduate student - wtf. annnnyway, its so expensive and i am going to be so broke, but i LOVE it. next semester i get my first client, meaning that i, lauren kestel, will have my OWN 'PATIENT' to treat. (we call them clients cause we aren't doctors). that, to me, is amazing.

i can't believe how excited i am about learning all of this stuff. i seriously am in love with the curriculum. the classes are all about speech, language, and hearing - their relationship to the brain and the problems that arise. i know its geeky and most people don't find this fascinating, but i LOVE it. LOVE LOVE LOVE. it's all my favorite things about linguistics!

during my studies i'll get 3 placements - which are when i go and work out of house. placement 1 is with a public school. after i complete that and take the knowledge test, i am certified to teach in massachusetts public schools (EEEEE!). placement 2 is a medical placement. i want to shoot for a hospital - not nursing home. placement 3 is our 'specialty' placement meaning we get to choose. i am leaning towards specializing in autism and stuttering, but they say a lot of people change their mind. we'll see. so far i'm jsut super excited and i don't care if i'm gonna be in mountains of debt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just wanted to share my joy with you all!
