It's 2:41am (technically 3:41am) and waiting for laundry to finish.

Reading up on Yes discography and random useless band trivia that'll never ever come in handy in my life. I'm slowly learning about Yes on my own with no one else to geek out with; this being the first in my history of obsessions! *applause* But it's fun. I've listened to the first 4 albums (which are GREAT), and I also own Drama (1980). Drama btw STILL hasn't grown on me. Apparently some people feel Trevor Horn has stronger vocals and better lyrics, but I STILL can't even get into these songs. It's just TOO 80s-ified. But I digress...this is fun! And makes me wish I was working in music right now.

There's something trippy about reading up on bands like Yes. A band that has CRAZY talent all since 1969 with tons of fans in 70s, 80s,...and now hardly anyone (under the age of like 40) listens to their music (except for "Owner of A Lonely Heart" that plays religiously on Jack FM). Just the idea of this band being so appreciated 30-40 years ago which...isn't that long ago really! Or is it? hahaha And at the same time Led Zeppelin, Genesis, Deep Purple, all those bands were kinda coming up alongside them with this crazy musical revolution...Well, Zeppelin stuck with us...but Yes, Genesis, Deep Purple...I doubt people even care now about them. O_o; It pains me to say it. But honestly if I were to go up to any person of my age and tell them I listen to these bands, they'd be like "Ew.....oh zeppelin i like their stuff."

Which...i actually don't listen to Genesis or Deep Purple much...but Yes. Well I admit I'm a little embarrassed when I play Yes in the car. haha So people would probably find me weird listening to that stuff. Granted that this music isn't "of their time" or they just didn't grow up with that kinda music, but why is it that I find it so fascinating? More fascinating than today's music which I tend to find so repetitive, and complete carbon copies, and recycled material?

Anyway, the whole "being forgotten" thing just doesn't go for musicians, but actors and other performers: just the idea that these super talented people were once huge, and in a few decades they fade away. Well except for people like elvis and mj, obviously. Or britney spears...or new kids on the block hahaha. But actors, opera singers, vaudeville performers, etc from like the early 1900s that were considered VERY popular and well known....well....they've all sorta been forgotten or some people now hardly even knew they existed really.

Just makes me sorta think well DAMN...what's the point then? You're gonna die someday, your fans are gonna die someday. Unless you've invented something completely new you'll just fade away with everyone. I'd feel bummed after going through all of this work and creation only to be seen as outdated and all. Oh and they do get old, bored, repetitive, and times/culture/people change, i understand. '

But i feel like maaan what's the point in music...especially NOW?! When there's just WAY too much diversity in the mainstream and it's just EVERYWHERE. Who's guaranteed to actually LISTEN to your music anymore? Seems liek the only time EYE listen to anything is if I go to a show and am forced to hear a band open live. And it's rare when they're actually great performers. But seriously WHO IS LISTENING?! Mp3s/wavs allowed everything to be OUT THERE and...well to me, music is getting a little overwhelming (with bad music especially). And programs like protools, logic, ableton, cubase, whatever....as much as they are AWESOME they all kinda opened the gates of dooooom. So I feel like whats the point when you're just gonna be out-shined by those who are overly produced, auto-tuned, and mediocre performers?

I guess it's kinda depressing if I put it in that way. hahaha I feel like such an "old dude" when I say all this stuff. Oh and especially while listening to/obsessing over Yes (especially 1970s Yes [best era everrr]). It's funny too: even though I know a few APA/CRAD kids that know and listen to Yes (*heart*) and other interesting music, I still associate Yes as "dad music." hahahaha No, my dad never really listened to Yes, but it's just such "DAD MUSIC," dontcha think?

Well anyway, for some reason this is tripping me out.

I'm sober people i swear! Although I'm sure there're tons of loopholes in my ramble, but who cares really. I'm tired!

And noww...I'ma konk out. Bye!
