Madi's first birthday has come and gone and because my job absolutely blows...I missed it. I worked my first night the day before so I had to sleep the entire day of her birthday and then go into work that night. I got to see her a total of like 2 hours on her birthday and I spent the vast majority of that time crying my eyes out. I know she doesn't know the difference, but it is so heartwrenching to have to miss out on your baby's big day to go take care of other women and THEIR babies. Poor Jeff got the brunt of my frustrations and then I was in a down mood all night.
Anyway, the next day was when we really got to celebrate. We gave her a little birthday cake and let her destroy it. She was more interested picking the sprinkles off than anything, but eventually got into the messy photo-ops that we all love and cherish. She got a lot of nice gifts too...lots of summer clothes from us, Angela, Linda, Nana, a photoshoot from Mom; a sweater from Grammy Redmond, a doll from Val, the start of the birthday girl figurines from Debb, a walker toy from Danny, $$ from Dad and Nanny which she got new sandals and a Backyardigans radio with (with some left over...probably to be used for summer PJs which she NEEDS), a summer outfit, sundress and puzzle from Ashley and the girls, a pillow and blanket from Carmel and Thomas, a toy purse and some cars from Heather.
And on a sader note...she's weaning. This is breaking my heart more than I thought it would! Cole weaned a little later than this but I truly expected her to go longer and I kind of wish she would where she still doesn't have all THAT varied of a diet...but what can you do? I nursed her for an entire year and have given her the absolute best start in life that I could and if she's done, then she's done. She hasn't nursed in 2 days and had only been nursing once a day for about a month now and the night before last she actually refused me and reached for Jeff at bedtime. That coupled with working on post-partum with Moms and babies has given me the baby itch once again! The plan for #3 will be when Cole starts school so not for a while yet!
