I did a dumb thing today
Ok so I was orientating on 4SE (urology) and I'm not very familiar with those kind of surgeries so when I got my post op back, I wasn't expecting what happened...
I no sooner got her off the stretcher then she started with the "I gotta pee! I gotta pee!" business. I spied a foley bag hanging from the stretcher and said "You shouldn't have to pee, you've got a catheter in". She said "well I still have to pee!" So anyway, I get her on the bed and she's still going "I gotta pee I gotta pee!" So I say "Just pee, you've got a catheter in". She was very concerned. "I won't wet the bed," she says. "Nope, you've got a catheter in"....
"Well," she says. "I'm telling you the bed is now soaked". I look and sure enough...she's got a nephrostomy tube coming from her side and no foley. I made this poor lady pee the bed and there I was laughing my ass off at myself.
Never a dull moment in my life, I tell ya. Needless to say, I got poked fun of a lot today.
