Monday, 8/12/2002 - Day 9
Today over a nice breakfast buffet at the restaurant downstairs, we decided to make today the day when we do all the stuff we always do in Vancouver every year. So that's what we did.
First, we went out to Burnaby (Vancouver's high-density eastern suburb - think Monroeville, all the malls and people, but flatter and smaller so it's all high-rises) to go to the Playdium, a giant video arcade almost as big as the Loews theatre in Homestead. Spent several hours there, then we went to Granville Island, a former warehouse district that's now all stores and chic art galleries, etc...it's kind of like what the Strip District is trying to become.
My dad picked up some fine meats and cheeses at the Granville Island public market, and we ate a light dinner here in the hotel room watching The Count of Monte Cristo. I'm buying the DVD when it comes out...great movie. I forgot how much I liked it.
Random observations:
- We need something like the Playdium in Pittsburgh. I realize that there's Dave & Buster's, but that doesn't help me very much.
- Joe Sakic is from Burnaby. Don't know why I remember that, but hey. Useless fact.
- I honestly wouldn't mind living here...Vancouver's a great city.
