So it's Sunday night....god damn, what a weekend. Better than last year's Carnival, and I didn't think our clean sweep of buggy could be topped. But I'm older now, and it was a new experience again.
The Heinz Field booth that I put so much time into building got THRD PLACE in the independent category (!!!) - which was awesome. Esther (our booth chair) really worked her ass (and a few of her piercings) off to get that thing built, and it was really cool.
We won buggy design comp for the fourth straight year (!!!) and we got 2nd place in the mens and women's races (Saturday was rained out, so Friday's times stood final), and our B team got 5th place - making Fringe in the past 3 years the deepest, fastest team in buggy, with the best mechanics. We only lost men's by 0.25 seconds, and PiKA still couldn't beat last year's Fringe winning time of 2:09.07. That's some shit, let me tell you. It felt great to blast champagne corks all over Beeler Street - I even saved one...
Which brings me to the party - fucking great. There's a reason I allow myself to get drunk one night of the year - and I was successful in not making an ass of myself while still having a great time. The alums supplied the beverages, so we were well-stocked with good stuff - case in point: we used Heineken to play beer pong. I lost....badly, though I blame it on my Red Sox hat - the curse still applies. Beer pong losses + undetermined amount of champagne + a bottle of Sam Adams Cream Stout + 3 cans of Foster's (Australian for REALLY HUGE pint-and-a-half cans) = one very drunk (but not passed-out, vomiting, or hung over) Zavo. It was a lot of fun...the atmosphere at the party was great....I really feel close to the Fringe people...as it should be. Despite all the competitions and the work we do, at our heart we're just a really big group of close friends. That's the best part.
Other events this weekend...big family dinner at Lidia's in the Strip...what a great, great restaurant...I should keep it in mind in case I ever get the chance to take a girl out on a date...though I'm still looking (and trying to actually gain the courage) to get to that point...can't say I'm doing too well...but it's all good.
Was also forced to download a few songs by someone named John Mayer. You should check him out if you get the chance...not bad. Especially "Love Song for No One" or "No Such Thing"....he's pretty mellow, good to listen to.
That's about it for now...classes start back up again, and now I need to focus on repairing the damage I did this semester by going far too long without paying much heed to anything except my dad's ECE course and Military History of WWII. It's the same thing that Karasic's guilty of, though maybe worse. But I think I can pull it out...got 2 weeks before finals and I no longer have any excuse for distraction. I realized today (holy SHIT) that I'm about a month away from being halfway through college. Wow.
But I'll still update more often. I promise. I'm not going to forgo my free time entirely - I think I'd go insane if I didn't have something to put me in a good mood.
Pirates are 12-5 (!!!) and Vancouver's up 2-0 against Detroit....though I think they might lose tonight's game...
