I've been a huge fan of Hal Sparks since about 2004. He's funny, and intelligent, and a great dramatic actor as well. I've always kept up with his music, comedy, and acting, but he's never done any shows in the area. When I found out he was doing a show only 4 hours away, I HAD to go. I'm so glad I did.
So Megan and I left Portland around 2:45 after grabbing some Quiznos. We got stuck in major I-5 traffic around the Rose Garden, but once we got through that, it wasn't bad. We didn't hit real bad traffic again until we got to Tacoma, because they were doing road work, and had closed the 4 lane highway down to 1 lane. We were stuck there for over an hour. We got into Bellvue at about 7:00, which is when the show was supposed to START. I was really bummed that we were so late, and scared they might not let us in. Our directions were messed up, but we FINALLY found the place at around 7:30. They let us in. It's a really cool lounge type place. We got seated right in the front, and Hal hadn't even started yet, so I was happy.
There were a couple of local warmup guys, they were okay, not too funny. One of Hal's best friends, Chris Bonno, opened for him, and he was really hilarious! I loved him. He did a bit on Paul McCartney that was pretty dang funny.
Hal kicked off his set with a long bit about Michael Jackson. It was absolutely hilarious. He totally cracked me up. He looked great. He recently cut his hair, and I actually prefer it short. It's funny, he actually has a bit about how people don't like his long hair, haha. He did some bits that I already knew like the Nascar one, and the "my dick is a pussy" one, but he had some new material too, and I was cracking up. It was good to laugh after 5 long hours of sitting in the car.
After the show we waited in line to meet him. It was funny, cause these two guys behind me were obviously part of Hal's gay fanbase, and they were like "oh my gosh, he is so cute, he has a great body too." When I got up to Hal I just introduced myself and told him I loved his show and that I had been listening to his CD on the way to the show. He was really sweet, and Megan and I both got photos with him. I also talked to Chris Bonno. I told him we were Facebook, and Myspace friends and we talked for a bit, and he said he recognized me, cause we've been online friends for several years. He said he and Hal might come to Portland! Ahh! That would be totally amazing.
