today was a long day

the end of this week has been a long week too.  after a studio issue wednesday afternoon, we had emergency mtgs thurs and fri morning which required me to get up an hour earlier than normal, thus making the days longer, but it was kinda good at the same time.

last nite i left early since i was in earlier and travelled across town to pick up shelby and our 4v and gelfand shipments.  i was able to chat w/ my dad along the way since it was his bday friday.  we had dinner at islands, got sidetracked w/ the nook @ b&n, then headed to hollywood to meet damon @ k24 for his bday dinner.

we found a great spot on sunset and vine and waited an hour and a half before damon arrived b/c he chose the wrong bus schedule from the lacma, but it was good to chat w/ brandie for a while since she's headed to paris today for a week and a half, is in the midst of grad school and buying a house, and overall we haven't seen much of her lately anyway.  damon got there so late, he decided to skip out on miss kitty's, so we dropped him off at home and crashed around 2am.

today we got up and watched the first half of the galaxy/sounders game before heading to tujunga to help out czar w/ his lost finale promo contest for disney.  he had nadia, young ben, young charlotte, and charlie's brother on hand while chad frye put on a wig and played hurley, another friend played locke, and the rest of us acted as plane crash victims/dharma initiative peeps.  go czarma initiative!  looking fwd to seeing the final 30 sec spot and "enjoying" the finale on the big screen in his backyard in a couple of weeks.

fressers the pastrami truck tweeted this week that they had an important announcement on their website.  they were shutting down the truck for good and anyone who wanted to enjoy the pastrami one last time needed to head out to calamigos ranch in the malibu hills saturday nite, so we headed that way after we were done in tujunga.

calamigos ranch is gorgeous.  the flying pig truck was there with them, commissioned for a kid's bday party that was on the grounds by the m cafe.  a wedding was in progress across the lot at the star bldg.  a film shoot was also set up there during the week.  it's basically 177 acres of land including a merry go round, shuffleboard table, pool table, pond w/ little paddle boats, and the beauty is you can buy any alcoholic beverage at the m cafe and walk all over the grounds w/ it.  i bought a glass of saddlerock petite sirah, shelby a glass of saddlerock merlot, then we walked down to fressers and spoke w/ jessica and scott about the reasons they were getting out of the food truck business.  they gave us their card so we could dm them and they could let us know when they have the occassional pastrami party.  scott also says he makes an amazing chicago style pizza, so i am all ready for them to go forth and open an actual restaurant like they are considering.

i took my peppered pastrami and golden mustard sandwich and shelby took his pot roast sandwich w/ au jus to a table beside the pond full of geese and ducks.  immediately the birds descended upon us, but the ducks took the stealthy way in the water so they were on the opposite side of the geese.  the geese quickly ran them and their ducklings off, however, declaring us their property and patiently stood beside our table staring expectantly up at us, honking to each other in quiet tones while they awaited our offerings.  one particular guy was unwell, w/ a hole in his swollen foot, an unhealthy bill, and the back of his (hers?  its?  they were like a lil goose mafia) neck shaved of feathers.  when i threw the first rye piece, the largest one grabbed in immediately, so later when i threw one further out, the largest one beat the sickly one to get it.  so while they were out of the way, i gave a piece to the third one and plotted how i would get a piece to the sickly goose.  i had to physically hold the piece in my hand for the goose to grab it, but he did, and i felt better.  the other two got called into the water by a few other geese who had appeared, and when shelby tried to shoo the ill one into the water, we realized the foot probably didn't do so well in the water b/c the goose refused to go.  so i fed him my last piece of rye, and he drank some more water before nestling down a few feet from us just in case we had more.

we left and headed to thousand oaks to see if the saturn was still around.  it was not, so we went to the valley to see if the inventory was worth us making the trip out to it in the morning (trying to figure out whether i should suffer w/ my accident-prone baby or actually turn it in for good in july).  we got caught by the ford used car salesman and spent the next couple of hours test driving old focuses and seeing what the differences were in used prices vs. new/lease prices.  finally the guy's boss shut us down b/c he wanted us to buy, and i had been saying for the last hour that that wasn't gonna happen.  *sigh*  i miss saturn and their hassle-free practices already.

we're now home watching betty white on snl and drinking gelfand's petite sirah to see if we wanna order more.

sup, saturn, birthdays, wine, tv
