i called roughly 15 places this morning for quotes on the glass and came up with a winner in van nuys. i actually came across it thru a search of the
los_angeles community - on the road again in van nuys off sepulveda. julio was very personable, gave me his cell number, told me to call when i was on my way for our appt in the morning and to make sure i came to the right place b/c some people get confused and go across the street. it's apparently part of one of those strip malls. he was very curious who referred me but the person who recommended him doesn't have a name in their user info and wanted me to know that he does all collision as well if i or anybody i know ever need anything. very small operation. we'll see how it goes, but he's won brownie points so far with his charm and a price below $150.
i still owe a wine blog or more at this point now that thanksgiving has passed. we spent thanksgiving in oakland under barbara and justin's hospitality. they live in a converted warehouse full of lofts - huge space and very cool layout. grant from
mythbusters lives there, and they have a dominatrix next door. we had lots of food, wine, and
rock band with their friends that day & nite. i am better on the guitar w/ rock band, but i dig the drums even though they are very complicated and loud to play.
they took us to berkeley friday, but it's kind of a blur with the sinus infection taking over. we watched
paris je t'aime that evening with exceptionally yummy
zachary's pizza.
saturday shelby & i left oakland for san francisco and his cousins, the templemans. david's wife is my age, french, and their 2 yr old, keiran, speaks both french and english. i felt exceptionally cultured this weekend and marvel at how easy it is to be exposed to new cultures and ideas living in california. we walked up to
west portal sunday morn in my attempt to see football since the templemans don't own a tv and settled for
joxer daly's and a ginger ale before disappointingly walking to this awesome little wine store called
wine styles (they had 2004 anarchy!!) and eating at this peruvian place called
fresca.
i collapsed for about a half hour when we got back then the whole group went out to the
arboretum with a quick pass by their new house they are moving to in twin peaks, but it was late in the day by then so a brief stroll thru the gardens and a quick jaunt past the front steps of d
e young before we had dinner at
masala. we both made mental notes to visit the area again on next trip.
never connecting with jim, i wrote him off for the trip since monday was approaching. we got up monday morn and had breakfast w/ kristen & keiran before packing up the car, getting shelby's passport photos back on west portal for his amazing race app, and dashing to paso for our chumeia order. on our way, we stopped at
blackstone, and i really wanna keep an eye open for their rubric.
rock hits windshield, chumeia's order is under shelby's name but that's never checked, so we tasted while i kicked a very dirty ball across the tasting room to cristo (their one of 3 dogs) as butterscotch and applesauce (their tabby kittens) watched and subtly demanded attention. they refilled our order. we hadn't eaten since breakfast so we went to
bubba's bad bbq for a late lunch and made it back into la around 7pm. matt had been trapped at lax all day, i had no idea malibu was set on fire saturday until yesterday, and i think i am fairly caught up now with tv & bills. i have to go thru all the magazines now and plan on hitting omaha steaks to get that free ham before tomorrow.
mai's pumpkin spice candle has definitely permeated the living room, completely defeating the rank smell we came home to monday nite.
my toes are froze.
