memorial whirlwind

May 29, 2007 13:46

i anticipated a fairly relaxing 3 day weekend.  instead it was go go go which has now pushed back my relaxation to the upcoming weekend.

friday nite,
alex_victory dragged
shelbyg and me to the midnite screening of better off dead.  still a great movie, and the subtleties such as ricky's facial expressions were of course magnified on the big screen which enhanced the experience, but the pacing was slower than when it's on the small screen.  hard to believe that savage steve is now writing and directing for the disney channel.

saturday i was awakened by a call from cliff.  he was hanging in town at his cousin's place in venice, so we made plans for dinner.  when shelby got home, we headed to santa monica for benihana.  caught up with cliff on his tour with the chili peppers which leaves tomorrow for the final leg in japan and europe.  he's not sure where he'll go after that, but he's already got an offer for ozzfest.  i told him not to be a stranger, especially since he's leaning toward a more permanent residence out here in cali.  he did tell me eric has gotten married and is expecting his first son in august.  i need to drop that boy a line...moving fast like he always does, only this time, the missus gets a big thumbs up from the best bud.

sunday i caught
zedsaid online and asked him if he was going to rose and spencer's bbq birthday fiesta.  he had just found the evite about 2 minutes before i imed him.  we carpooled over to the valley to spencer's parents' house.  they had a full feast going, so we gorged for hours.  said hi to nick, listened to brian tell about a million awesome jokes, laughed at dave laughing at those jokes, caught up with zee,
ddelapp,
halbe, talked movies with chris and
yo_adrienne1, met rose's friends' 10 1/2 month old named aurora who enjoyed being fed watermelon from rose rather than grabbing the pieces with her own hand.  watched spencer, rose, and zee beat the crap out of a huge hat pinata, and then left to catch the weho party starting at 8pm.

phil had called both me and zee at the party to tell us his birthday was that day and he knew it was last minute but wanted to invite us to barney's beanery for some drinks.  i dropped zee off so he could change, met shelby, phil, and his gf, rachel, there, and we hung for a coupla hours as the crowd grew.  phil was totally amazed that so many people were in town and came out to celebrate.  we left early b/c i was wiped out from the excessive binging and the fact that i also ordered a burger and fries at the bar.  got home and finally introduced shelby to adventures of priscilla, queen of the desert, then we got hooked on the midnight music videos the music channels only play at that time and didn't go to bed until we extracted ourselves at a commercial break.

we enjoyed our memorial day with the kleins.  sammy's got these cute little red curls now, and he once again did not wanna go to bed when he needed to go to bed.  i don't see how they do it.  only a couple of hours with that kid, and both shelby and i were exhausted.  he's walking like crazy now, which is a recent development, and gives lots of kisses.  we fed him a whole lot of food and fed ourselves even more as we always do, enjoyed a couple of bottles of wine, praised the coolness that was annika's newly knitted pair of socks, and left them to their pitch practice around 10pm.

in usual fashion, we decided to not go to bed when we should've and decided to watch clerks II, which we liked, but not as much as i did the first one.  many  awkward moments and many battles of geekery,  but the movie had so much inside reflection going on, i have to go to wiki  or imdb to remind me of the connections.

this morning i awoke earlier than i wanted to make sure my boss wasn't going to have issues with his lunch date.  i met thu in larchmont for lunch at la luna and dessert at pinkberry before getting a much needed haircut.  now i am home, sleepy, and already in my flannel pants all cozy and willing to do nothing.  this is my monday after all, right?

sup, lunchy munchy, babies, birthdays, party on, holidays, movies
