the mighty pom

okay, that bush i park in front of my drive is overflowing with pomegranates.  since it's the almighty antioxident does a body good, who knows when is the best time to pluck?  how can you tell if it's ripe and ready?  and can i make my own juice out of it with the same absomazing properties that pom always claims it has?  some of the fruits i have noticed have already burst open, but some are rather tiny, still growing i presume, while some seem perfect yet are steadfast to their branch.  any advice would be appreciated in taking advantage of the free fruit available to me.  i can always google it, but i figured some of yous guys have the experience already.
