The cheapest hotel I'm aware of in the CBD is the Explorers Inn, charging I think $89 a night for a double-bed room. The rooms are teensy, it smells a little musky, but it's on Turbot St right in the very heart of the CBD (btw, it's not quite as nice or as spacious as the photos on the website imply. But it's definitely somewhere to sleep).

The restaurant downstairs is fairly well-priced too, as far as restaurants in the city go. Don't expect great-tasting food or great service but it's cheap and close.

Annies Shandon Inn is al ittle known place and might be a bit daggy looking (Think your grandmas craft filled country cottage) but its cheap. I stayed there a few times. Its so close to the city its not funny. The price range varies. I remember staying there for $40/night. I think it can get up to $85 depending on what you want. Its kinda like a nannas house but they are super nice, hospitable and its so damn central. Anywho google the name and you'll find the details.

Annies... is that the twee-looking pink place on Upper Edward Street? I had a friend stay there once, she said they were rather friendly. And yes, it's a stone's throw to Central Station.

Apprently Bunk in Fortitude Valley is quite the happening hostel, and it's home to the ever popular "Birdee Num Num" nightclub. :)

There's the F1 motel chain but they're really basic and the one I can picture in my head is out of the way of public transport so unless you're hiring a car it'd be a cab fare to the nearest train station any time you go out. Though now that I google it there is one on public transport. About $80/night for a room.

But since I know you I'm sure if you get really desperate and don't mind the travel to my place you could crash on my couch...

haha cheers! I will keep that offer in mind. We don't know for sure what days we will be there or for how long yet as it's a bit of a whim trip. So I really need a few options in case every other place is booked out (likely). Will add you guys to the list!
