Good Night and Good Luck

Cohabitante and I watched the above named film yesterday afternoon. It was interesting to me in several ways. I found the protagonists' masculinities, particularly that of the Murrow character, at once threatening and charming. The boys in the newsroom treat each other to endless cruel quips. I envy the quickness of their wits, and am pleased to be less inclined than they to wound, even jokingly. The broad shouldered newsboss with the imperious kindness was archetypic, and easy to disdain.
C & I both wondered how much of the footage was legit, how much of the story was accurate. To my mind, an historic fiction that makes one want to research actual history is functioning well. We both were making strident satisfied grunts at things Murrow was portrayed to have said onair about McCarthy. The depiction of inspiring courage may well have been overblown, but I have such strong feelings about the subject matter that I wouldn't've been able to tell.
The black & white worked & didn't feel like a gimick. The soundtrack was all well-performed small group jazz. If there's anything redeeming about the postwar era, it's that jazz was the ubiquitous american popular music. I'll bet I'd've liked that about it.
Clooney is getting cuter as he ages. Robert Downey would appear not to be aging.
