I appreciate copyright, but still....

While looking at YouTube tonight I saw a lot of videos along the lines of "My account is going to be deleted soon, here's my new address...".  The reason for it is detailed here but the short version is that Warner Music Group has pulled out of an agreement with YouTube that allowed its music to be used on the site.

It annoys me because I like good fan created videos and they are being deleted in droves.  There aren't videos that made money for the creator - in fact, many of these videos had advertising links next to them which earnt money for the copyright owners.  But apparently that isn't enough for Warner Music (which includes Atlantic and various other labels).  No, they haven't received the right dollar signal so they plan on pulling out all together.  I personally think some money is better than no money, but that's just me.

I realise that piracy and copyright infringement is a big concern in the entertainment industry and in the end, I do support a companies right to protect its property and investments.  However, if a fan has bought the music and bought the DVDs and wants to make a little video project, which in the end is just free advertising for the song and the repsective film or TV show, what really is the harm?
