I took a break after finishing my client deliverable today, so that I could jet to the grocery store and do all the last minute shopping (so that hopefully I don't have to face the crowds the next few days). Good lord. I haven't spent this much money on grocery trips in a long time. ;) Spent...a lot...at Whole Foods market buying the moms all this gluten-free stuff. Then everything else at the store near my house. Rawr.
I've really grown to like Thanksgiving. When I was young, it was a big deal, but as I got older my parents leaned towards eating out on The Day and it became less family oriented, less personal, and in turn my attitude shifted towards the holiday as just another excuse to sleep in and get paid for it.
Thanksgiving is fun....I bet the natives living in the US when the pilgrims decided to invade had no clue that it was turn into this huge national celebration of the loss of their livelihoods, the introduction of disease, rape, pillage, etc. (I mean this of course in a very sarcastic way)
But hey! For that one meal in history, the White Man and the Indian Man supposedly got along.
Let's friggin EAT!
I am all about listing things that I'm thankful for. But I'll wait until Turkey Day to do it.
The turkey is gonna get it. Bahaha. I'm using a flavor injector again this year, with the Williams-Sonoma injectable stuff that was so numma-licious last year that it bears repeating. Also making my mom's traditional fruit-marshmallow salad that is THE staple of my family Thanksgiving, have to have it. Mashed potatoes and gravy, that's a given. Sauteeing green beans with shallots and olive oil, turns out sooo yummy...
Pies of course. Wine and beer. My stomach pains just thinking about all the food. Good lord...
So much to do before then. Must clean house - again - and must start baking pies because that's one thing you can always do early. They're landing at 9 am Thursday, so will have to go to the airport to get them. Probably will have lunch around 12:30 or 1, methinks...
Lots to be done, but it will be a blast. :)
