On Tuesday December 6th, I went to see Cyndi Lauper at Massey Hall!
Sandra Bernhardt opened. She was good...she's still mouthy and bitter, nice to see 2K hasn't mellowed her any! LOL She has a definite hate-on for all things Bush (you know what I mean!), and had a great time disassembling the White House's press release on (are you ready for this?...) their Christmas decorations.
Cyndi was AWESOME. She's funny, cute, sweet in a "girl-next-door" kinda way, a great dancer (kinda punk-moshy), fun sense of humor, and...sexy. Very VERY sexy. This is not a word I would think to associate with her, remembering the wild hair and rag-dresses from her heyday in the 80s. But DAMN...she's got a great bod, one helluva rack, and was dressed up in a tight little leather outfit. The girl was hot! Go, Cyndi!
Her voice is as good as ever, if not better...I always wondered if her high range is real or a product of "digital remastering", but it's all her. WOW.
I was surprised that she didn't include anything from At Last, but as far as her own stuff, she had songs from her whole career, the big highlight of which was Shine, where she got the audience to sing along with her. Well, she tried anyway...most people didn't even try to hit the note. LOL
She devoted a ballad segment (led by her new song Above The Clouds) to Matthew Shepherd, having recently made acquantance with his mother. They're working together to focus attention on hate-crimes, and they're raising money with one of those rubber wrist-band thingies everyone seems to be wearing these days.
She also did the re-envisioned Body Acoustic versions of classics like She Bop, Money Changes Everything, and Girls...
It was a great show. Massey Hall is a small enough venue that it was a pretty intimate setting. Like sitting in her living room!
It's funny to say, especially as an old-school 80s-metal headbanger, but this was one of my favorite concerts ever.
Lova ya, Cyndi! :)
