Less than one month before I go home. Wow.
I've been accepted into a master's progam. It starts May 12. It's an online Masters of Education. Those of you who know me well know I'm not a particular fan of education courses, but it'll give me the piece of paper that'll help me get jobs, and hopefully I'll learn something from it. I'm doing it through Concordia, which is in my hometown of Portland, although that's not really terribly relevant to anything. It does mean I can hide the fact that I did it online when dealing with schools that won't hire people with online degrees, though.
I signed a 2 yr contract renewal, inspired largely by my figuring I might as well be here while doing my master's program (although the one I chose is only a 1 yr program, but I'd already confirmed for 2 yrs.)
A few days ago we had the most noteworthy weather-day I've seen. It started with a thunderstorm. That ended. Then there was another thunderstorm, this time with marble sized hail. That ended. Then came the earthquake (5.7, 60 miles away.) Then came another marble-sized hail storm. It was fun. (For those who don't know, Afghanistan gets a lot of earthquakes. I'd say I typically feel 2-3 a year. A couple have been big enough to break glass cupboards, but nothing more. Just enough to be fun/interesting/unique.
Today is Mujaheddin day, so we have the day off. I was supposed to go mark IELTS scripts, but we're on restricted movement so I can't get downtown to do it. That means they'll bring them to campus tomorrow instead, which is more convenient for me anyway. I've been doing a LOT of IELTS marking this month. It's made things really busy/stressful, but has also netted me $2200+. This will pay for my plane ticket home this summer, so yeay for that.
Cam has been very busy. I hope (and expect) it to slow down once chronicle starts. I've finally got all my ducks lined up for my Tremere. Still trying to figure out my other chars (Requiem & Awakening, and a second primary for C/A.)
Been watching Merlin (hi
winnett .) I think it'd be a brilliant show... for 14 yr olds. It's well done in a lot of ways, but is YA. Regardless, I'm enjoying it, and it's a great character study for a Tremere elder who's been in power for forever.
Our kitten/cat (formally name Boo, after Boo Radley, but mostly just called "the cat" or (unaffectionately) "Yowler" after one of his more notable pastimes is.... becoming part of my life, and I'm coming to rather like him despite the fact that he's a 14 lbs, fifteen month old kitten whose life consists of streaking around the house attacking.... everything. And yowling. (Although he's mostly quit the yowling, except in cases of closed doors blocking him from various things.)
