General update

Leaving tomorrow to go back to the US.  It seems many of my updates tend to be written the day before or the day of my return home.  I think it's because all the other stuff I have to do (like work) has wound down and there's usually a period where I've got little to do.  Also, in the teaching world, end of the semester is sort of a period closed ( Read more... )

since traveling, I've been catching up on so many shows myself. . .the most recent one being Twin Peaks! *shudders*

How often do you go back to the States, just out of curiosity?

Oddly, Twin Peaks is on my list of soon-to-watch as well. I don't really expect to like it, it's just one of those shows that I missed and feel like I should see in order to understand a huge amount of geek culture of that era. (I've been picking away at stuff I missed at the time earlier in life. I'm skipping Beverly Hills 90210, btw, but I am trying to pick off the more weird stuff like Twin Peaks. X-Files is another that could go on the list, but I caught at least half of that at the time. Farscape & Babylon 5 were also on the list, but I picked them off a while back, of course ( ... )

oh cool. . .that would be nice to go home twice/year. . .My husband has been wanting to go to Afghanistan for a job for a while now. . .but his family always says he can't go. I said I'd join him if I got $100k/year :p

As far as Twin Peaks goes, it's really good, especially if you think back to the early 90s and how TV shows were back in the 80s. . .it was a really ground-breaking show. It's sometimes weird to look back on, but I just compare it to a Tennessee Williams play (only way more grotesque and modern), and understand it more. Once you're finished with the series, watch the movie. . .but please wait to see the movie until *after* you've watched the series, bc there are a lot of spoilers. . .creepy stuff!!

Depending on where your husband was working, it's safe enough here. There are places that are less so than others, but Kabul and areas aren't too dangerous.

And noted on Twin Peaks. I'm going to finish off season 2 of Being Human, although with the crazy airport layovers (see my post from today) I might go through it fast.

To clarify, sadly... They give us $3K for a travel allowance. Unfortunately, flying back to the US twice a year costs about $3600, but at least it helps.
