Shimla & Rishikesh
I don't think I've mentioned that I'm in India for the break, but here I am. We have a week (plus 2 weekends) so it's not long, but a while. I got into Delhi Friday and left for Shimla Saturday on an overnight train. It would have been all in the dark, which would have been highly unfortunate, but the train was delayed 5 hrs, so a good chunk of the trip was during the day. It's absolutely gorgeous traveling through the mountains.
I spent a couple days there wandering around the hillside. It was cold at night, but very enjoyable. Last night I took a bus back down to Rishikesh. It was a "deluxe" bus, and not a bad bus at all, but the incredibly curvy roads didn't make for a very good sleep. Arrived here, got a hotel, and crashed for about 3 hrs. (This whole thing isn't helped any by the fact that I seem to have lost my appetite. In the last 30 hrs, I've eaten one bowl of soup, and doubt I'll be able to eat more than that later, either.) It's crazy. No vomiting, no diarrhea, just no appetite. Very frustrating, though.
Tomorrow I'm going to spend wandering around town and down the Ganges, then off to Varanasi, I guess. It's a long ways out there, so I'm kind of debating it, but I do want to get out there. So....off I go.
All in all, an enjoyable trip thus far.
