recovering (and Heroes comments)

I seem to be completely and utterly over being sick.  It came out of nowhere Thursday, hit hard, and disappeared just as suddenly by Saturday.  Despite being a complete non-hypochondriac, I couldn't help noticing that it was an absolute textbook case of early-stages malaria.  It hit a week after I spent the night in the hotel with the mosquitoes.  It included a high fever (peaking at 39.2/102.6) that would last for 5-6 hrs, and then go away for 5-6 hrs, then return, then break, then reappear.  I had nausea, some diarrhea (fortunately not bad), and by the end, I had a headache and really bizarre/odd joint pain.  (Not just usual fever achiness, but my joints specifically hurt.)  In other words, every single malaria symptom, including the weird ones, and no other non-malaria symptoms.

So I went in to the doctor, and the tests turned up negative.  Of course, a negative malaria test doesn't absolutely mean you don't have it, it just means it doesn't show up at that moment.  But since it's been about 48 hrs since everything vanished, and I've had absolutely no symptoms since, I figure it must have just been a flukey malaria clone.  That's a nice thing to have.

Now, being back to normal for the second day in a row, I finished watching season 3 of Heroes, so figured I might as well comment on my thoughts.

I know everyone says Heroes goes increasingly downhill with each season, but I really liked the second half of season 3.  As in, I REALLY liked it.  The entire "heroes gone underground" and being forced to do what's necessary to survive.... well, totally awesome imho.  The large-scale plot/character arcs are cooler than what I'm able to pull off with my stories (well, at least since I'm writing short stories) but it's definitely the kind of story/theme that I would write.  I suppose that's why I like it.  Unsurprising, isn't it?

One odd thing I realized about half-way through as I was watching it is that my favorite characters is Noah Bennet (this isn't the new realization.  He, also, is 100% the kind of char I'd use in my story.  Sort of bad guy, but only because he's trying to do the right thing and... misses.)  But what surprised me slightly was the realization that I really liked Syler.... not just as a well-rounded villain, but everything about the character, including Zachary Quinto (aka - Young Spock) in the role.  As someone who usually considers actors almost completely irrelevant (it's a faceblind thing), I was shocked to realize that the actor (his mannerisms, expressions, and pure style) is a big chunk of what made me like Syler.

Then, about 10 minutes after I came to this realization, they up and killed Zachary Quinto's side of the character.  Of course, a little bit of internet research assures me Quinto/Syler is still around, so I'm not worried.  But it was still a weird realization.

Anyhow, will see how season 4 goes.  I know everyone says it gets fragmented and.... fades. So I'm figuring I'll come to the same conclusion.  But for now, I really liked the second half of season 3, and am wondering if I'm really the only person who liked it.
