Brin got his first MACH points and first MX leg yesterday at the regional beardie specialty here in Northern California. Not a lot of them and no multiplier (missed that by less than 1 second - darn those weaves anyway!), but more of them in one run than Colton ever got in a whole day when the standard course times were more generous. Sadly, we missed the JWW leg due to my pulling him out of the weaves about a half pole early (you should have SEEN the look on his face - he knew that one was my fault!), but I took some handling risks straight out of class, and THEY WORKED. I was thrilled with how he was working. No knocked bars. He was judging his takeoffs appropriately. He was focused despite the bitch-in-season distractions (they've been peeing around the outside of the ring and he is totally unfocused outside the ring, so when he actually pays attention when I set him on the start line, I'm beyond thrilled!) I can't believe how far he's come since last year! WOOHOO - happy dance :-)
The courses were really nice - very technical, but with plenty of opportunity to keep up the flow if you handled appropriately. Daisy would have approved. They were a lot like some of the stuff she throws at us in class with odd distances and good highway/city changeups. I'd love to run under this judge (Ann McQuillen) again.
Off to wash his brown-ness's white bits for the show part of the week. The forecast has changed from chance of rain to overcast so I may not have the excuse of rain to minimize my grooming task - too bad!
