[ His errands had taken a tad longer than he expected, carrying out little tasks for the children just to get out of the house. Hank had needed seemingly meaningless things from the local grocery, Raven art supplies for which she had some secretive plot. Alex had tried to trick him into acquiring vodka, but Erik's always been quicker on the mark than the boy has. Hotwiring the lesser of Charles' vehicles had also been easy, and Erik kills the lights in the garage, opens the door to retrieve the shopping, and -.
StopsThere's something foreign in the house. He's always been good at sensing attack, and he can feel something metal somewhere toward the centre. Concentrating, Alex's bracelet, Raven's hairpins, Sean's novelty belt buckle and Hank's glasses, are all on the far east wing. Charles' watch is in the hall. With the thing he can't explain away

[ Charles flinches towards the bang of the door, eyes blinking open and closed, repeatedly trying to force them into focus, to rid himself of the red tint that seems to be twisting everything into something sinister.
But he feels the familiar mind of Erik in an instant, even without being able to reach up to touch the side of his head and amplify the insight he feels into what lies there, because he can sense the fear, feel the bile rising up inside of him as if it were his own, and the rage, oh, the rage is something quite remarkable in itself.
He tries and fails to move, to smile up at the right looming figure and assure Erik that he's quite all right, but he feels too weak even to do that. There is something else there, though, a panic that hits, that takes over his entire thought process, and it homes in on Erik like it never has before, desperate to protect, to reach out and do whatever it can to see that he doesn't end up in much the same way as himself, or, unbearable to think, worse

[ White hot fury surges up inside Erik, makes his hands shake from it. Shaw is every bit as nightmarish as when they last met, and he's not sure he will ever stop being the frightened little boy around him. Erik refuses to let go of the anger bursting behind his eyes, the sharp snap of murderous intent, Shaw has Charles' blood on show like it's some cheap illusion, and Erik's fingers clench to hard points of white across his knuckles. ]
I am going to rip you limb from limb for touching him, Arschloch.
[ Erik makes a move, a full body jerk as though he's going to lunge for him, but his trajectory falls short with a muffled choke. Sweat breaking out over his forehead, Erik tries to move, tries to lift the scalpel from Shaw's hands and jam it into his jugular, but he can't.
Emma steps out of the shadows, arms crossed over her white chest, moving to his side. ] Now, now, Sugar. Your flag is showing just a little bit.
Ah. [ Shaw's smile widens just a fraction as he looks back down to Charles. ] You made him care. Thank you, from the

[ The ropes are cutting into the flesh around Charles' wrists, rubbing it raw as he struggles against them and drawing blood, but it doesn't stop him from trying. He finds a sudden burst of energy, the fight to do the right thing, to protect the people he loves - to protect Erik. But it's all in vain. The rope is too tight, and though he might find himself more aware now of what's going on around him, every limb feels like a heavy, dead weight that trembles at the prospect of moving before giving in.
He opens his mouth to throw a charming insult up at Shaw, to demand that he release him at once, but all that comes out is a choked cough that splutters up blood along with it.
Shaw seems incredibly amused by the entire scene, like he's doing nothing more than watching a play on a stage, and Emma, though she neither looks thrilled or discouraged, stands there looking content enough with herself. ]
This might even be worth the trip out here. Did you really think you could hide from me forever, Erik? For all those years you spent
