We are getting closer to making 30 posts. I know that i actually failed to do it everyday but I have chronicled them like I have, so that counts... right? Lets see we has been going on today.
Oh yeah the supreme court said that the defence of marriage act was unconstitutional and in the next 25 days they will finalize their decision and federal benefits and rights will be given to the couples married legally in states that recognized the marriage. So it is not all cut and dry but it could be the nail in the coffin for this battle. Also they agreed with the lower court for the Prop 8 issue in California, which says you can not discriminate on marriage as well, but this is legally only in the district of California that the suit was brought but it a good start. I hope it happens sooner, but in 10 years this will hopefully be history.
I'm so confused by this issue. I do not for the life of me understand how this can and has stood for so long. If you argue it as a gender discrimination case, then its a no brainer and the states have a long history of defeating gender discrimination. Also if you argue that it is wrong because your faith tells you it is then that is the state mandating a religious view onto the people and I thought that was not allowed in the constitution as well.
I wonder if these were similar thoughts about the world around them during all the changes in history?
