No JET for me...

So JET sent their letter to me.

It says 'no'. I will not be going to Japan in August with the JET program.

I am disappointed, but this is not unexpected. I am actually surprised that I didn't do a write up of the interview a month ago. Suffice it to say that it was the worst interview I've ever been involved with, both organisationally (I filled out their 'update form' for the interview, and was asked questions about the old no-longer-relevant details) and with regards to the questions asked and their responses (dumb questions like: how have you overcome adversity in your life? Answer: I've never suffered adversity, I'm middle class. I've always had a roof over my head, I've never lived in a war zone, and I've pretty much always known where my next meal is coming from; sensible questions that got weird responses to my answers: how would you engage with 8-16yo Japanese kids? I'd get them to talk about their TV shows and try to help with vocab; I'd get them to demonstrate their games, and help them substitute English vocab for the Japanese. Their faces indicated that this was the weirdest shit they had ever heard in their lives).

I knew this 'no' was coming.

The plan right now is to focus on the three papers I have due in the next 72 hours, then deal with my exams the following week.

Around April 22nd or so, I shall begin operation 'Spam private teaching companies that have schools in Japan'.

This was merely one avenue that has closed. There are many more. :)
