The week so far....

The week breaks down as follows:

Wrote my essay yesterday. I've been trying to write it for two weeks, to no avail. The essay is on Twelfth Night, which is entirely dull as far as I'm concerned. Don't misunderstand: I *really* enjoy Shakespeare, but I find the comedies that I've read to be superficial and dull. Twelfth Night is an exemplar of this. As such, I've written what I consider to be a C- (or so) paper. It's garbage.

Oh, and I've lost my book ($10, so no big deal) so I didn't cite my references correctly. I pulled copies of the play from gutenburg.org, but the lines aren't numbered. So I counted, and I'm fairly sure that I'm off by a line or two for each citation.

Philosophy Ethics mid-term number 1 happened this morning. Aced it. I'll be ridiculously astonished if I get less than 21 out of the 25% it's worth.

Japanese Oral exam. Got 14.5 out of 18 (it's worth 8% of the final mark) on this. I'm astonished and pleased with this. The test consisted of reading a short paragraph entirely in Hiragana (with a couple of Katakana words), and then answering comprehension questions in Japanese. Lost a mark in Fluency (due to reading slowly so that I didn't screw up), and made some minor errors in my answers.

As this is a formal academic class, you have to answer in a formal way:

e.g.
Q. Did Ishisan study German last year?
A. Yes, Ishisan studied German last year.

My mistakes were minor. Like *really* minor. I'm pretty damn happy with where I am right now, and am looking forward to the next level of Japanese in UBC, in September. (to count for my degree, I need to take 4 consecutive courses in Japanese)

Given that I've learned first-hand that studying actually works, I intend to continue the habit. Ideally from the day the course starts... :P

So: Japanese final tomorrow, English final tomorrow (on Milton: Paradise Lost), and then Philosophy (Epistemology) mid-term 3 on Friday.

Oh, and I got paid a sickday for last Sunday when I skipped work, and my pay for marking for Logic for the last three weeks both kick in on Friday. (I'm a TA for the Logic prof this semester. I'd have mentioned it, but cf my workload as a cause of my lack of posting :P )

This means that I can afford to pay my $250 deposit to UBC before the July 14th deadline (this was potentially not going to happen). This means I can go to UBC. :P

I'm in a pretty awesome place right now. :D

english, japanese, sheer awesomeness, philosophy, exams, up my own....., school
