I just got back from the Real Madrid v. DC United game in Seattle and it was great!
Well, right when we got our seats an announcement came over the
intercom and said that the Northwest broke a record tonight for the
biggest soccer game. I thought that was pretty impressive. I thought
that maybe half the stadium would be full but it was 66,000 and some
change of screaming soccer supporters.
Of course a lot of Beckham Jerseys and I think there were actually
custom Beckham shirts that I saw some girls wearing. I thought they
made them at home but I walked by a merch booth and saw that they were
actually selling them as official merchandise. WOW!
The game was pretty electric. Seattle isn't really know for it's
soccer (besides the Sounders who are a decent team in the USL) but
tonight they really showed some support. At first, of course, everyone
was cheering loud for Beckham and Real Madrid but after DC united tied
the game up, the crowd support shifted dramatically. After a couple of
great saves by the keeper, everyone really started cheering for DC.
The game flew by and I wish it would have lasted longer. When the
lineups were announced, I think a lot of the Man U fans gave Ruud a
little booing and Freddy a lot of cheers.
Overall, I was impressed by the play of DC United. I know they are in
the middle of the season and Real Madrid is just warming up, but they
still fought hard. Real Madrid looked like they needed some work and
I'm sure that will come. Ruud had plenty of chances to score but he
didn't come through. Kind of a lack lust performance. It was great to
see Robinho play live. I such a huge supporter of him. Also it was nice to see Fabio Cannavaro as well.
The Premiership starts a week from Saturday!!!!!
