Merry Christmas with a Drive-By Shooting

Dec 27, 2009 08:59

Christmas Day in mid afternoon, I was sitting in my car in wolfstoy's driveway (new house) smoking my medical and listening to some tunes (while waiting for Wolf's Dad and Step-Mom to arrive. All of a sudden the electric gate opens, a car stops in front; a black man gets out and fires 7 or 8 shots at the next door neighbors sons friend. I was close ( Read more... )

I spoke to his real estate lady (my gf that I haven't spoken to through this whole process because of my own mess). Anyway she said there are KNOWN problems next door. She said she visited there MANY times and there is traffic in and out and said she mentioned this to John. The fact I don't think anyone called the cops except the new kids on the block; makes me a bit nervous also. This is the first time I saw the place and it makes me think it's an easy target being the window coverings, electric fence and the open back yard (real easy target). Also my feelings are if the guys are ever gone; they WILL know, and they'll just shoot the dogs and enter the back. Alarms better be attached to the police department because no one in the neighborhood will likely call the cops or get involved in any way. Being a minority in an all majority neighborhood, my guess is they will have BIG problems there. I can say this quite frankly because it happened to his Father and me in our first ranch. I just hope he doesn't get hurt or anyone else. All I can do is pray; but I in no way am laughing this off like he and the guys are because I know all to well what may happen; I'm just wondering if this house is worth it??

My sister lived for a few months in Baltimore where she was in the minority. In those months there was frequent gunfire, her dog was stolen (and managed to find his way back) and her tires were slashed. I don't think it's worth it. Another friend of mine bought a house some years back in San Leandro and is now jumping at the chance to get out since his neighborhood took a big downturn.

Even the alarm systems can be ignored by the police unless it's a really good one with sound and video.

Well, I still feel my mom is making a bigger deal of this than it needs to be. I've already talked with most of the closest neighbors. All have been friendly and not at all what you'd think of as hostile. The nights are plenty quiet in the neighborhood and while there are rougher streets near by, the street I'm on over all is well kept.

No, it isn't Marin, but that I knew coming into the place. I'm not worried yet, though if something like this happens again, I may change my mind.
