To earn respect, it is always good to tell people YOU personally require confirmation of news from two independent sources before believing it. They will learn from that without being told they are dumb tools helping TPTB to hold on to the power they increased by getting Cheney into high office. Nothing has really changed except policy change will occur in spite of that instead of because of it.

I read, via email, important stories in the NYTimes, Washington Post and for laughs and conservative take, the Washington Times. Then for real controversies, I hit the university sources for background history in controversies. Usually, something is off in each source. I write a lot of letters to editors and quite a few have been published.

When you want to present another view of reality - you have to be able to actually present it. So, find out what papers your parents might respect and look it up. There are many respected papers if they feel the ones I mentioned are too liberal.

You may not know but Chris (?) Buckley quit the Nation (founded by THE Buckley) when his own political positions moved to the center based upon the outrages of the right.

It means more work for you but we all must become writers now - I suggest leaving comments in Newspaper on-line comment blogs. That educates many if you present good info in brief and non-hysterical forms. Every person who learns, teaches a few more and so it goes...
