Just another reason to hate politicians
"We're willing to give up what's good for America as long as we get something good back," California Rep. Xavier Becerra said.
Isn't it lovely to hear that our leaders are willing to sell us down the fucking river as long as they get something shiny in return for doing so? And it's so lovely of them to just admit to it like that, isn't it? I mean, at least they're being honest about something.
The healthcare bill that I looked forward to, the one that would have made it possible for my husband and myself to actually have insurance rather than lose everything we have the next time one of us gets sick (or everything we have left, at any rate... we lost our business when the Hubby was hospitalized in 2001, and lost our house and car after the kidney infection that almost killed me)... is dead.
It's been modified so that it appeals to the Middle Class and the rich. There isn't going to be a public option for insurance under what will finally pass. Which means that the next time the Hubby or I get sick, we're going to lose the only thing we have left, which is the little tiny shred of pride that we managed to hang on to.
So, fuck you very much, America. You're gonna get to keep your overpriced, undercovered private insurance, and I'm gonna get to die poorer than I am now, which I seriously did not even know was possible.
