'Ello mates!
I just wanted to give this blogging thing a dry run-through before Kelley and I venture across the pond. In case you hadn't heard, we are traveling in tandem to Europe this summer! That journey officially begins in 16 hours. We leave O'Hare at 6:15 PM and arrive in London's Heathrow Airport around noon their time. We plan to drug ourselves with Ny-Quil so that we get some semblance of sleep during the eight-hour flight. Four pills or six?
We have been feverishly planning, packing, and errand-running this week. I certainly did not allow myself enough time for everything that needed to get done. Being the hero that I am though, I am making it all happen just in the nick of time. To complicate my drama-soaked hell, Des Plaines was hit by Katrina-force winds today, in turn, knocking out our power. First time in 2010 and quite possibly the worst day for it to happen. Thanks to Kelley, I was able to lug my electronics over to her loft past midnight to complete the necessary computer work. Resubmitting teaching applications and backing up my laptop data has never been so fun! I was able to watch her parade around her new outfits and pack up her big red suitcase. Of course, there was rowdy laughter and silly stories shared. Ankle fur, anyone?
At this point, I plan to leave her loft in the next half hour, drive my Mini Cooper one last time down I-90, hit the hay until about 11 AM, and then wake up to finish tying up the last of the loose ends.
Join Kelley and I on this 15-city, 57-day extravaganza as we conquer the continent of Europe one angry foreigner at a time. Keep your eye out for our sassy traveling gnome too. He just might pop up unexpectedly every now and then. 'Til I update from our hosts' apartment in London, Bon Voyage!
