***I enjoyed KNR immensely today. Jim really enjoys his job and it makes the class much more bearable. I am going to miss him next semester. We started off presenting our lesson plans. He split the class up into four groups of seven or eight. We took turns presenting to each other in front of the video camera. I just got done watching mine on tape and it looks better than how I initially felt I presented after teaching the lesson. This technology really benefits me because I get to see how I look and act when I teach. I noticed that I, uh, used a lot of, um, like, crutch words. I also found that I fluctuated my voice and sounded enthusiastic the entire time. The six others I presented to seemed to enjoy my lesson as well. I liked most of theirs too.
***Kristy actually presented the lesson plan her and I came up with for another class! Three other people from our class will evaluate my performance next week. I will do the same for three others. However, that is actually completely irrelevant because, today, Jim said that as long as we came to class and turned in everything we would get an automatic “A.” He is going to make our final worth very little.
***Jim taught us “Johnny Whoop” today. It is a great game to teach to elementary kids. He told us to follow his exact movement. He tapped his fingers a series of times in a relatively complicated way. Then, he went down the line and asked each of us to individually repeat it back to him. Only four or five got it the first try. I was not one of them. Then, he did it over again. My friend and I figured it out this time. What he did that most of us were not picking up on was a subtle crossing of his arms at the end. We were all so focused on the complicated hand and finger movements that we stopped paying attention to the rest of his actions. Details, details, details!
***Finally, he asked our class if we would rather do a frustrating activity or an easy one. I was the only one that wanted the frustrating activity. Everyone else chose to do the easy one. Unfortunately, majority ruled, and we did a teambuilding activity where we had to transport a marble across the gym into a small cup. We were each given a different-sized half pipe. We could not touch the marble. It was really easy.
***Then, at the end, Jim called me out and asked if I wanted to stay behind to do that difficult activity I yearned for. He said all I needed was another partner. Kristy stayed back with me. He put string handcuffs on each of our wrists and intertwined them once. We were tangled up. The goal was to get out of them without removing the handcuffs from our wrist. Kristy and I quickly got tied up and got nowhere. We went ass-to-ass, face-to-face, wove in, out, got on the ground, and crawled around, all to find ourselves still tied up. That may sound dirty and it probably was to some degree. After 20 minutes of failure, we gave up. Jim showed us the solution without a problem. An intrigued student teacher was convinced it could not be done. I still could not tell you how exactly Jim did it. He did something with making a small loop with his string and put it through the student teacher’s cuff. He just told us to play dumb next week if we played that game. I will not need to play dumb because I still cannot figure it out!
I have to deal with an eight-page paper relatively soon. After I finish that, along with a Biology project, I will be able to focus studying for my two finals. This semester is reaching its end!
I am off to Wal-Mart now with Christina and Joe. I have to get salad, olive oil, tomatoes, and a couple other things. Hopefully, I can spend under $20.
Michelle’s 21st birthday is today. Her, Jess, Christy, and I did a few shots last night at midnight. I hate vodka so much!!! She opened up their presents to her, and they went to the bars. I stayed up for a while and randomly decided to bake Michelle a cake. So, at 3:00 in the morning, I preheated the oven. By 4:00 the thing was done. Jess and Michelle stumbled in right around then. Michelle thought the guy in charge of the beer bong put some sort of object in there. She was convinced she swallowed a toy car! I distracted her with cake. She was so thankful. We chatted over cake at our “table.” We each had two pieces. I must say I did a fantastic job. If you were wondering, it was a confetti cake with vanilla frosting.
***Next week is the final KNR entry! I cannot believe I will have completed 15 rather long journal entries for that class. As of now, my assignment is 18 pages! My entire experience will be documented. I can look back on it for good ideas when I enter the field. Jim also recommended keeping our textbook. That thing is packed full of great physical education activities for any grade.
I feel a bit scummy right now. I will need to shower at some point.
