G’day, everyone, on this very fine Monday morning!
Yes, I know it’s Monday, and Monday’s aren’t always that fine, but today is....
That’s because today is our most fantastic moderator’s birthday!!!
Happy birthday Jacques, I hope you have a most wonderful day!
And if that isn’t enough to get me in trouble, I found this version of
Happy Birthday that’s just too cute!
Jacques has tried to get me to sing, but so far I’ve refused, since I’m not that good. I feel too embarrassed to sing for him, but since it’s his birthday, I think I should get over my fear, and sing happy birthday to him. I’ve overcome fears before when I’ve wanted to do something special for friends, and it has always turned out better than I thought.
When I was in eighth grade, I took my sister, her friend, and her friend’s sister ice-skating. Vivienne’s friend’s sister was totally blind, so needed someone to skate with her. My sister and her friend quickly disappeared, leaving Yvonne stranded on the edge of the rink.
I had only been skating once before, and had been too afraid to leave the safety of the rail. Knowing that Yvonne wasn’t going to have much fun if I didn’t take her out, I came up to her and asked her if she wanted to skate with me. She didn’t know this was my first time out on the ice, and I decided it was best not to tell her.
I stayed with her for the whole session, making sure she didn’t run into anyone, and didn’t fall. I can’t say the same for me, but the joy I felt at being able to make her day a fun one, despite my nervousness, meant the world to me!
She gave me something truly great that day, too- the confidence to skate on my own, and a new hobby that I enjoyed for many years.
When have you stepped outside of your comfort zone to do something meaningful or special for someone else?
