Yo.
It's been a little while since I blogged. I've been busy:
- Finished (and received!) my teaching credential and got a job as an assistant teacher at a private school. I love it; I get to spend my mornings working one-on-one and with small groups of first and second graders, and I run the after school program. I am also one of the leaders of the security committee, and they have just offered me to be director of this year's summer school. I'm not making a ton, and I don't get medical benefits, but I'm getting some valuable experience, and enjoying it. I still have to remind myself sometimes that I'm getting paid to have fun (mostly) all day.
- Still married to the love of my life (duh). I think we finally have a good estimate on his expected graduation date, and, sadly, it probably won't be until June of 2009. Ugh. He thinks it will be a quarter earlier, but I won't hold my breath, bless his heart. He's working about 15 hours a week at his old job, and is getting ready to contact potential internship employers for this summer. I know I said "never again" after last year, but I can't be the reason that he passes up the great opportunity that we think he may have working some contacts he's made over the past few years. And the perks are good. ;-) More on that if/when it comes to fruition.
- House is still a mess. We did some serious cleaning in the days between my interview at my now-employer and the start of the school year, but we've kind of stagnated. We were going to go home a few weekends ago (and thus get rid of the pile of yard-sale fodder in our living room), but I got the flue so we were home-bound. Know of anyone who wants to buy a couch? We're hoping that we make enough at the eventual yard sale to buy the coffee table (with storage) we want, and then we can finally get our good china out of its boxes and into its fancy quilted holders, where it is a little more accessible.
- Taxes and FAFSA...need to do those today. Problem is we lost our 1099 with our savings account interest on it...I really don't want to go back and add it up from all of our statements, and I know it's got to be around here somewhere. We'll be getting a decent chunk of change back, which we'll use to almost completely pay off the last of the wedding expenses lingering around the credit card. We're also looking forward to the much-talked-of refund (which I agree with on a policy standpoint, but will still be glad to see in my bank account).
- The kittehs are doing fine. Need to get them in to the vet for a check-up...should probably schedule that for over Spring Break, which is just 20-something days away! I tried switching kitty litters, and that was a stinky disaster. We about half an hour after church cleaning out the box, treating it with vinegar (which was supposed to neutralize any lingering odors...not so much), and then using an enzyme treatment on the couple of places where they have had accidents on the carpet. Hopefully this works, because all of the previous attempts haven't, and the fact that our bedroom smells like cat pee when the weather heats up is not attractive!
- We've made it to church two Sundays in a row! Pretty impressive for a couple of late-sleepers, if I may say so. We have our last "new member" class tomorrow evening. I don't remember what the topic is supposed to be.
Okay, Andrew's on his way home from helping a friend/co-worker move, so I'd better act like I've been doing something productive this afternoon. : )
Love, Jenna
