So, we began our trip with a visit to Pagosa Springs, Colorado.
The three of us going over the pass. It's about 10,000 feet.
We arrived in Pagosa Springs intending to camp, but rain soon interefered with our plans. It wasn't that we are afraid to camp in the rain, it was more that we were afraid the bottom of our tent may have had a few small tears (which we later repaired), so we opted to stay in a hotel. As it turned out, it was inexpensive, loads of fun (we actually got to watch some of the Olympics), and right across the street from the
Hot Springs. We spent the night soaking under the stars and it was really lovely. The facilities are really lovely and, though child-friendly, it still managed to remain intimate and quiet. And, best of all, you can drink beer in the pools. Granted, they are sulger-based pools, so you do emerge smelling like hard-boiled eggs ("It smells like Easter!" remarked Cody), but it's totally worth it. It did leave me craving egg salad, though.
The only negative that day was our (second) thwarted attempt to have a beer at the
Pagosa Springs Brewing Company. We sat there for over twenty minutes being utterly ignored by out waitstaff until we could take it no longer. Everyone around us seemed to be getting service, but we received not even a not of recognition. Oddly, this is the second time that this has happened to Andrew and I. Hence, we decided to blow the joint and go to
Kip's Grill. It was a much better choice and I highly recommend it if you ever find yourself in Pagosa Springs, CO.
