I've been feeling oddly non-verbal for the past couple of days - and not very social either. There's nothing wrong;I'm perfectly happy. I just seem to be craving quiet. So, in honor of being quiet, I give you:
I've been very luck to live some very beautiful places over the years. If course, there is beauty everywhere, but northern New Mexico on a summer morning is especially lovely:
My neighbor makes the found-wood bird sculptures you'll see in some of these shots. His name is Don and he's deaf as a post. He lives in this little shack and makes crazy-cool sculptures (usually of birds and people and animals) out of bits of wood that he finds. He claims not to be "an artist," but he's had shows around here. Still, he mostly trades for his work and he's placed a bird on every other fence-post along our driveway. On, and, rumor has it, he was once a fierce drag queen in San Francisco.
Look! It's a still from an 80's video! Nah, it's just another neighbor's horses coming out of the mist:
This one is a mare and I don't know her name, but she's very curious and smart.
The black one on the end is named Vam (I have no idea why) and is a very cool horse.
This one is my favorite. His name is Lefty and he's blind in one eye because he was born without a pupil. However, he's a handsome Buckskin and very, very friendly. They all are, actually, but Lefty here wants to be friends with my donkey-buddy, Rose, so that makes him extra cool to me.
