The Vampire Diaries and romance

Well, this episode was interesting. On many levels and in good ways and bad.

Torture team Damon and Bex. She is scary. She scares me more than Klaus. ALso, can I point out that they all forgot about her again? She was left on that island. Like always.

Silas being (basicly) a shifter with the power to compel is interesting. Bonnie is once again reduced to the magical negro. This is one more thing you just can't unsee.

Much like the HUGE issue this show has with control and agency. I understand that the triangle is central to the whole show. But the idea that people think the way Elena is being 'taken care of' is romantic worries me. It it becomes more worrying every time.

Not only is there this sire bond. But now Stefan is deciding to use it to have Damon 'take care of her'?! Why shouldn't she feel deep pain while grieving for her brother? Who the hell is Stefan Salvatore to make that choice? Yes, she is losing it. WHo wouldn't? Stefan still has his brother. She now only has two men in her life who constantly make decisions for her. Even to the point of taking away her chocie to grief.

Is this really what romance and love is?
