Giggling through my tears...
I have many vivid memories of this day five years ago... my husband waking me with the news... the feeling that we were watching a movie and not an awful example of Man's Inhumanity To Man... watching three days of news coverage and vowing never to do so again... and inconsequentially, since I NEVER watch this show, being told that the *Residents* of Australia's Big Brother house would not be told, that they would emerge from the house in six weeks from that day and find a different world.
Also, I remember things people said in the days after that made me cry again. You know...just little things... On a talk show one night, newsreader Sandra Sully recalled her immediate reactions. She was preparing to read the late news when the feed of footage from the US came in, with no audio so no one could fathom what was happening. As she began her bulletin, she was really flying blind, so to speak. Meanwhile, the hosts of the Sports show which followed the news switched back into reporter mode and began finding out what was happening, giving the info to Sandra as they verified it. Needless to say, the Sports show never aired that night. Just a small example of why the terrorists will never win... we pull together and carry on, get the job done, and deal with the grief later.
I'm over being sad already...lets have some happy news now!!
