This weekend has been, as much as anything can be, perfect.
A had a magic night with my beloved, followed by a day full of sparkly people and flamey things. teh_elb, loneraven and shimgray all came across from The Other Place (braving all sorts of perilous roundabouts) for the occasion. Once again the Eyot was transformed, this time with burning torches around the edge. This year combined one of the warmest bonfire nights I can recall with a huge and raging fire, so that most of us spent the night without coats on, which is really rather ludicrous in November. Both Freya and Stephen had brought magic chemical powders to add an extra sparkle to the bonfire. As ever, the only flaw was too many people I wanted to see, and it was impossible to both see everyone, do everything and spend as much time as I would like just hanging out with all the wonderful people.. But seeing teh_elb and proskynesis reunited was delightful, as were teh_elb's Magnificent Steaming Pants. Loneraven's squeals of delight when M and PJ were produced were also glorious.
Being old and weary we left before 11, but brought the still damp elb home, along with those staying here and a few people old and easily tired like us, where we were revivified by whisky and song. (Note to self, must apologise to neighbours for all verses of American Pie being sung at midnight. Personally I thought 'wish you were here' was a more awesome singalong). My friends are awesome.
Today, after breakfast in the sunny kitchen of coffee and pastries, I had to choose between lovely people playing cards and lovely people eating, and I opted for the latter. It was a lovely, silly, laughing, enormous lunch, and I'm quite glad I opted to walk the 8km home or I'd still feel bursting at the seams.
All in all it was one of those rare golden times, when I know and feel myself to be ridiculously fortunate and impractically happy.
